The above map, from Wikipedia, shows areas of the world with oceanic climate. Coincidentally, all the areas I've lived in have these climate characteristics.

Interview

Just had two interesting conversations. One with a friend living in a beautiful country in the North of Europe and one with a recruiting consultant from a large global company. Both discussions involved software development positions in Europe and both seem interesting and challenging. At least my worries about moving continents again seem to disperse now.

Citizenship Application Approved

I have just received the approval for my citizenship application from Australian Government in Canberra. Now the arrangements are undergoing to place me in the queue for the citizenship pledge at a local council.

I’ve just had an appointment with DIMIA regarding my citizenship application. Part of which was the citizenship test. Now all the administrative tasks I had to do are finally done. I hope the processing will be straightforward and I should receive a letter of approval in the following weeks. After that the local council should notify me of the ceremony date.

Today is the day. I’m off to the citizenship appointment and test. Its been a bit over two months since I submitted the application. Wonder what happens after this is done.
Hope to have a small celebration today after the test. :)

In 2005, the US announced a new visa called the E-3, for Australians only. The E3 visa allows Australian nationals, along with their spouses and children, to come to the US to work in a specialty occupation.

This should be welcome news for Australians interested in working in the US. Until now, Australians have had to battle it out with others around the world for the highly desired H1B Visa. Last year only 900 Australians obtained an H1B - now Australians have 10,500 E3 visas just for themselves. A specialty occupation is one that requires a body of knowledge in a professional field, and at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, as a minimum for entry into the occupation in the United States. For Australians interested in the E3 visa, the process is actually quite similar to the H1B visa. You must first find a job with a company who will then sponsor your visa. There are 10,500 E-3 visas available per year.

Spouses of an E-3 visa holder are permitted to come to the US and work also. A spouse's employment may be in a position other than a specialty occupation."
